The Independence of Mary Bennet

Filed under: Books — rvchua @ 5:59 am

I saw this book while browsing National Bookstore today. I was intrigued but in the original story Mary’s character just faded in the background. Much as I love reading about wallflower heroines, I am not impressed with Pride and Prejudice adaptations including P.D. James’ Death Comes To Pemberly.

In Colleen McCullough’s novel, Mary has become a beauty but has no desire to marry and is determined to write a book on England’s poor.
